Adventures in Heber Valley with Wasatch Excursions

Your New Favorite Fun Day

By Lisa Antonucci

Winter in Utah begs to be experienced firsthand, and Wasatch Excursions invites the entire family to immerse themselves in the stunning snow landscape.

Now in its fifth season of operation, Wasatch Excursions is the only company authorized to give guided snowmobile and UTV tours at Wasatch Mountain State Park, offering exclusive access to 22,000 acres of pristine terrain nestled in the shadow of the majestic Mount Timpanogos.

The whole gang can explore the backcountry together during a guided two-hour tour in Wasatch Excursions’ six-seater Cam-Am Defender, able to navigate dramatic elevation changes and deliver breathtaking views. General Manager Braxton Knight also notes the company’s emphasis on ease. “Not only can guests simply sit back and enjoy their frosty adventure, but thanks to Wasatch Excursions’ convenient location within the state park and their head-to-toe equipment rental options, they won’t lose a minute worrying if they have the right gear or spend extra time ferrying to and from the trailhead.”

“Even if you’ve never seen snow before and fly in wearing your flip-flops, we can get you geared up and ready to go,” said Knight. “And as the sole concessionaire within the state park, Wasatch Excursions offers an amazing opportunity to have intimate adventures where you feel like you’ve got the whole mountain to yourself.”

Guided UTV tours run three times a day (9 a.m., noon, 3 p.m.), weather permitting. So, explorers have plenty of time to start or finish the adventure with a meal at one of Heber Valley’s longtime local establishments.

At Spin Cafe, Vincent and Joline Esposito have served up made-from-scratch fare since 2006. Daily lunch and dinner specials—think fish tacos, Chicken Milanese, Texas brisket—highlight the diverse menu, but the star has to be the homemade, small-batch gelato! With 12 flavors a day, there’s sure to be flavor to satisfy every craving.

For adventurers on the move, the Dairy Keen— “Home of the Train”—is the go-to for drive-through goodness. Since 1946, four generations of the Mawhinney family have been serving traditional burgers and thick milkshakes, plus non-traditional seasonal items like Sloppy Joe’s in the fall and award-winning soups all winter long.

After this fun-filled Heber Valley adventure, relive the memories during your drive home and enjoy a hot cup of cocoa to top off this perfect day.
