13 Weeks of Summer Family Fun

FAMILIES THAT PLAY TOGETHER, STAY TOGETHER

Family time is the best time to create lasting memories, strong connections, and loving relationships within our families. After all, these things take time. There are many great ways a family can create time together. One of our favorites is playtime! We wholeheartedly believe that families that play together, stay together. We all know the older we get the faster time seems to slip on by. Make the most of your summer in the Heber Valley with our guide to 13 weeks of summer family fun.

SWEET TREATS:
Endulge your sweet tooth with a fresh pastry at Belle’s Bakery or the Midway Bakery on Main. Cool off with a tasty shake from Dairy Keen or a dirty soda from Quench it or Dotties Kolaches. Other sweet spots you won’t want to miss are Süss Cookies and Mrs. Call’s Caramels — you can thank us later.

FREE FISHING DAY:
Grab your fishing pole and a buddy and head to any of Utah’s public rivers, lakes, or reservoirs and catch a fish. June 9 is FREE fishing day — that’s right, no fishing license required.

PLANES, TRAINS AND AUTOMOBILES:
No matter your preferred mode of travel, the Heber Valley boasts some of the most classic machinery ever built. Let off some steam at the Heber Valley Railroad or check out the Planes and Horsepower Car Show which takes place August 4 at the Heber Valley Airport. Stroll around at the Back to the 50’s Car Show June 23.

ZIPLINE:
Why spend your summer watching TV when you can enjoy breath taking thrills at Zipline Utah or Provo Canyon Adventure? Both ziplines are designed for extreme fun, so pick a day, make a reservation, and take a lot of pictures of some of the most fun you’ll ever have!

HORSEBACK RIDING:
If you’ve never experienced horseback riding in the Heber Valley, you’ve never truly lived. With endless trail systems and beauty around every bend, horseback riding is the perfect way of breaking up monotonous days while making new, four-legged friends. Let KB Horses, Daniel’s Summit Lodge, or Rocky Mountain Outfitters handle the details while you experience the magic of horseback riding.LIVE MUSIC:Heber Valley has warm days and cool nights. Take advantage of the beautiful weather at some of the many summer concerts. Heber City Main Street Park comes alive Thursday evenings with a fun farmers market and free concert. The Homestead and Zermatt Resorts turn up the volume with Friday and Saturday night music line ups. From country to jazz, from classical to classic rock, we’ll get your toes tapping.

TRAILS FOR HIKING, BIKING AND ATV:
Miles, miles and miles of trails weave and meander throughout the valley. Pull out the mountain bike and get out on the 23 mile Sorensen trail at UVU Wasatch Campus. Hike over a dozen different trails at Wasatch Mountain State Park, including the Heber Valley Overlook and WOW Trails. Pump up the adrenaline aboard an ATV from Unita Recreations, Lofty Peaks or New Heights Rentals exploring hundreds of miles of National Forest trails. You never have to take the same trail twice!

GOLF:
90 holes of high elevation mountain golf await you at our five award-winning public courses in the Heber Valley. With stunning vistas, challenging play, and cool temperatures, you’ll be
wanting to play all summer long. Added bonus — Golf Week recently listed the Gold and Silver courses at Soldier Hollow Golf Course as two of the top ten course to play in Utah.

KOHLER CREAMERY:
Learn what it takes to be a real farmer at the Kohler Creamery and Dairy. Find out why pampered cows make the most delicious cheese. See how milk is made into cheese, pet baby animals, and sample some of the nearly 40 varieties of homemade cheese produced right here in the Heber Valley.

MAKE A SPLASH:
Make a splash in Heber Valley this summer. Try your feet at paddle boarding or kayaking on one of three reservoirs, dive into the Homestead Crater, experience the rapids while tubing down
the Provo River or relax on the sandy beach at Deer Creek State Park.

ARTS:
Try something different this summer and explore the arts in the Heber Valley. Enjoy musical theater as High Valley Arts performs Roald Dahl’s classic Willy Wonka. Stroll through hundreds of paintings during the Midway Art Associations Plein Air Festival. Step back in time at the Commemorative Air Force Museum to learn and feel what it was like to be a pilot in WWII.

RODEO AND COUNTY FAIR:
Boot, chaps and cowboy hats are encouraged during the Wasatch County Fair and Mountain Valley Stampede Rodeo. This family-friendly fair lasts an entire week. Starting on July 27 with a two day Demolition Derby. Activities include an outdoor movie, fair exhibits, carnival rides, a parade, and fireworks. Conclude your hometown experience with a grand finale rodeo, August 3-4.

SWISS DAYS AND THE SHEEPDOG CHAMPIONSHIP:
One of the best ways to wrap up your summer of fun and celebrate Labor Day weekend is to attend the annual Swiss Days festivities (the parade is especially cool). You also won’t want to miss the Soldier Hollow Sheepdog Championships. Both events feature familyfriendly activities, unique crafts and boutiques, and a lot of great food. The Splash Dog competitions will make you grin until your cheeks hurt, so bring your friends and have a ball (just not the kind dogs chew on).

No need to travel to make this summer one the whole family will remember, explore your own backyard, the Heber Valley.
